6 Easy Ways to Change Your Daily Routine

As a woman, we tend to desire routine and organization. Having a routine may feel safe as we step into the comfort of our daily routines. It may also feel productive, as we feel we are accomplishing the small consistencies to reach our goals.

So it makes sense to keep our routines to guarantee that we stay productive while also feeling safe. What I’ve discovered through this trend is that sometimes having the same routine every single day can begin to feel ‘boring’.

And, through this boredom we begin feeling less inspired and more likely to drop in consistency. It may feel as if we’re on ‘autopilot’ going through our day, yet not feeling fully alive.

Life isn’t designed to feel like you’re going through the day motion by motion mindlessly. It decreases our creativity and disables us from being our full authentic selves.

Through trial and error, I’ve practiced different techniques that have helped my routine stay productive and safe, but also more exciting, mindful and lively.

Take Different Routes to Your Daily Destinations

We tend to have our typical songs and playlists we listen to throughout the week. And, for me I find myself already knowing which song I’m going to listen to when I get in my car.

Yet, I’ve found with myself and others I speak with that the same music each day can get a bit boring. We still love the songs, but hearing it on the morning commute each day can feel a bit too much.

I invite you to try different genres of music. It’s fun experimenting with different types of music. This also creates new thoughts and ideas, and perhaps new inspirations as the new music flows through your ears.

Get Dressed Up

I’ve found within myself that some days it is so much easier to throw on whatever is comfiest. I crave comfort and ease. Yet, on days when I put in even just 5-10 minutes of time towards my appearance, I find myself feeling better and my confidence increasing.

It’s often found that women love getting dressed up for the extra confidence boost. If you typically aim for comfort, try dressing up every now and again in your routine to change your typical mood.

Talk with Someone New

For women, it is important to feel comfort in our environment. We may feel good about our close group of friends in our workspace or wherever we may be. But, I’ve found through my experiences that speaking with new people often sparks new ideas.

It gives you the opportunity to see a new perspective through the lens of someone you may not normally speak with. This gives a greater chance of learning through these new conversations.

Do Something Random

This idea I’ve come up with is a bit open-ended. I say ‘random’ because we don’t always think to do the ‘random’ when we’re in our routine.

Perhaps you practice drinking your water bottle with your non-dominant hand for the day. And, I know this may sound strange, but it’s another technique to invite more mindfulness into your life. Maybe it allows you to become more aware of how much water you drink, or maybe it allows you to slow down and enjoy the water rather than sipping throughout the work day.

Another ‘random’ idea I’ve tried in the past is moving my computer monitor around when I worked in an office.

This ‘random’ idea can be anything we wish to be, it can be as creative as we would like. The main idea is to practice mindfulness through this ‘random’ activity. It allows our minds to slow and jump ‘off the hamster wheel’.

Buy Someone a Gift

The act of giving is such a powerful feeling for women. It excites us as we share the love and appreciation towards others.

This will not only boost your mood throughout the day, but will also spread positivity to the
person you give the gift to. If drinking coffee is part of your morning ritual, perhaps buying the stranger behind you their coffee for the day is the gift you choose. Or maybe, it’s bringing a co worker their favorite drink
or treat to work.

There are endless ways to give gifts without breaking the bank. Perhaps even a handwritten note saying you appreciate someone.

Conclusion

As women, we crave the consistency of a routine, yet still find ourselves bored when the routine becomes too regular. It’s enjoyable to mix up your daily routine and see what new thoughts and ideas come up throughout the changes.
