Soft & Gentle Living Yoga

3 Simple Ways to Infuse Yoga into Your Daily Routine

Something that has been arising a lot in my life and those I work with is the idea of yoga becoming part of your everyday routine.

In our world, we are often taught that yoga is a practice of several different postures performed on a yoga mat. Yet, I’ve found that yoga goes much deeper than showing up on a yoga mat.

Yoga is a way of life. When we begin integrating yoga with our everyday routine, it allows us to go deeper into a more balanced and harmonious lifestyle.

1. Practice Gratitude

Yoga allows us to feel happiness deep within our souls. Gratitude is a great way to integrate yoga into our everyday lives. Gratitude practice falls under the Yama called Santosha. The yama’s in yoga gently review recommendations that have been studied by yogi’s for centuries.

Gratitude has been a proven practice to help improve our mindset. Gratitude allows us to find the beauty in everything that is around and available to us. It is such a simple, powerful practice. Yet, most women push off this practice. Through my own experience, I’ve found my excuse in the past has been that ‘I don’t have the time’ to practice gratitude.

Yet, when we intentionally build this gratitude practice into our daily routine – it’s amazing how much our mindsets can shift. Gratitude invites an optimistic mindset, leading us to find pleasure in what is given to us, who we are and life’s simplest offerings.

With intentional gratitude practice, we are freed from certain emotions and feelings like envy and longing.
I’ve personally found the best way to practice gratitude is either first thing in the morning or right before bed. Perhaps this means leaving a notebook and pen on your nightstand or on your pillow so the practice is more convenient.

2. Clean Your Environment

I’ve found it interesting that simple tasks, such as cleaning, actually are considered a yoga practice. And, this is why I love teaching yoga philosophy. The practices don’t have to be complicated or feel overwhelming.

Through cleaning our environments, it helps us keep clarity on our thoughts. I’ve always noticed myself feeling most flustered or on edge when I don’t have a clean environment. As we pay more attention to our environment, we notice how much an unorganized environment can actually affect us in a very negative way.

Cleaning our environment doesn’t need to be a deep, daily cleaning. It can be as simple as cleaning clutter or removing items that no longer have use. This type of cleaning practice is considered Aparaigraha, which falls into the recommendations of yoga.

Aparigraha teaches us to let go of the material world, which leads to stimulating our flow of creativity and opening up an environment that supports our internal growth.

3. Be Generous, Not Greedy

Our world can be considered very greedy. We live in a world that forces the perspective of ‘get this and then you’ll be happy’. Yet, giving is actually more powerful than receiving.

By helping others in need without looking for anything in return, it allows us to step into our true nurturing nature as women.

This can often be something simple, such as donating clothes, rounding up our change to go towards charity when checking out at a store, or donating to a non-profit organization.

Yoga invites love and generosity, I encourage you to try this yoga practice and reflect on how you feel afterwards.

Conclusion

Yoga is a beautiful practice that is often misunderstood. We’re taught to go to a yoga studio and practice postures for an hour, yet not enough yoga teacher’s speak of the practices we can take off of our yoga mats. There are several soft and gentle ways to practice yoga in our everyday life to create a healthier and happier mindset and life.
